There are a few downsides to Split Tickets, but these are usually more than balanced out by the money you save with them.
Seat reservations
The biggest catch with Split Tickets is that sometimes you will have seat reservations that change during the same train ride.
When reserving your seats, we always do our very best to try and give you the same seat reservation for the entire train ride. However, with Split Tickets this is not always possible.
Depending on how busy the service is, you may not even have needed a seat reservation in the first place, or you may find yourself having to move seats halfway through the journey. Possibly a small price to pay to save a lot of money though.
Having to be more organised
Also with Split Tickets you’ll have to be a bit more organised with the actual tickets themselves, using the correct ones for each section of the journey.
Where they are available for regular tickets, Etickets are also available for Split Tickets – which can help dealing with the extra organisation required.
Share of saving commission
Another thing to be aware of is that Railboard keeps a small commission of up to 15% of the saving we find, which goes towards running and developing the app.
